Eddie Peake
Eddie Peake graduated from the Slade School of Fine Arts in 2006, was a 2008-09 Abbey Scholar at the British School at Rome, and graduated from the Royal Academy, London in 2013. His varied artistic vocabulary encompasses performance, video, photography, painting, sculpture and installation. He currently lives and works in London.
His work has been exhibited at White Cube, London; Fiorucci Arts Trust Volcano Extravaganza, Naples and Stromboli, Italy; Galleria Lorcan O’Neill, Rome; Peres Projects, Berlin; Heide Museum of Modern Art, Melbourne, Australia; Drawing Room, London; and Museo d’Arte Contemporanea di Roma, among others. He has also performed in a number of venues including Palais de Tokyo, Paris; Tate Modern, London; La Casa Encendida, Madrid.
Eddie’s residency occurred January 11–24, 2019.
Before proceeding to BAP’s residency campus in Bataan, Eddie surveyed the visual landscape of Metro Manila and was specifically fascinated with the enormous printed advertising billboards that lined along Epifanio de los Santos Avenue, or EDSA, the main highway of the city. Aside from his performative work, his studio practice’s focus lies in the lapses and voids inherent in the process of translating between verbal language and nonverbal modes of communication. It is in the discrepancy between words and any other language tools, such as images, emotions, bodily movements, or sounds, that his art is located. He thus visited billboard manufacturers to study the life cycle of these print advertisements.

While in Bataan, Eddie experimented in the resin casting workshop and explored various landmarks in the region. Before his departure, he gave an artist talk at the School of Design and Art at the College of St. Benilde wherein he introduced his practice with an emphasis on his performative art.
